Case Study MFD Roll-Out

Situation

As a result of significant cuts in Government funding, Council's across the UK needed, (and continue to need), to seek ways to reduce overheads. One such overhead common to all is the cost of local printing. In 2018 a project was mandated to deliver a single, managed print service for the three London boroughs of Camden, Islington and Haringey with the objective of achieving savings through the consolidation of devices and various stand-alone contracts.

Task

Having sucessfully managed a project for Haringey I was recommended to Camden, as the lead authority to manage the project which, at the time was at the procurement stage. The task was to secure a 3-5 year contract that met the business requirements whilst being competitively priced and to then deploy new devices across the three boroughs, replacing the existing devices and any stand-alone printers, copiers and scanners and terminating the related contracts.

Action

I coordinated the implementation of a single print management solution including the delivery and sign off of a Proof of Concept and Pilot phase and the deployment of over 400 devices across over 900 sites. The project involved managing three project teams including IT engineers, Communications team, Business Analyst and Project officer.

Result

I negotiated at Executive and Senior Management level, the acceptance of business change that would have significant impact and be extremely challenging to adopt. Developed a self-serve print solution for the tri-borough library services which will deliver additional income circa £90k per annum. Developed a strategy for reducing print volumes and achieve 30% savings within the contract term.
